Dayanand Girls' P.G. College is the first post-graduate college for women in Kanpur, affiliated to C.S.J.M. University, Kanpur. We bring together students from different cultural and religious backgrounds and offer rich and varied academic and vocational programs. The institution strives to develop each student into a strong, integrated woman and inspires each young person to be responsible, committed to the service of others and society and at the same time receive a holistic education.
The D.A.V. College Trust and Management Society was established in the year 1892, in Uttar Pradesh, in the memory of Swami Dayanand. He stood for the revival and propagation of the Vedic Dharma System in its pristine purity so as to give mankind an incentive to mold life in a sublime and noble way. He worked with the prime object of ameliorating the physical and social conditions of all men without any distinction of caste, colour and creed. He tried to achieve this through dispelling ignorance and promoting knowledge.
The beginning of the trust was a modest one; a night school was started in Meerut in 1904. It was shifted to Dehradun where Negi Puran Singh Ji, a philanthropist, bequeathed his movable and immovable property worth Rs. 2 Lakhs to it. Later in 1907, a night school was also established in Kanpur which was soon converted and developed into a day school. The school at Dehradun and Kanpur later blossomed into High Schools.
In 1919, the Society with Raj Bahadur Anand Swarup and Munshi Jwala Prasad as President and Secretary respectively, founded the D.A.V. College Kanpur. Lala Diwan Chand was appointed as Principal of the College. A magnificent donation from B. Bansidhar and generous help from a number of philanthropists helped the college to grow in its early years.
In order to impart instruction and to provide facilities especially for girl students for obtaining a degree in Arts and Science, both at under graduate and post graduate level the DAV College Trust and Management Society (Now Dayanand Shiksha Sansthan) U.P. established this college in Kanpur on July 01, 1959. It has the distinction of being the first post-graduate college for women in Kanpur, affiliated to the C.S.J.M. University, Kanpur. This institution has established an educational benchmark under the mentorship of Late Dr. Nagendra Swarup Ji.
Today the Society manages and controls 20 Institutions in Kanpur under the able guidance of Smt. Kumkum Swarup Ji and Sri Gaurvendra Swarup Ji.
